The drums and bass are the only parts automated. I am not sure either how he gets it to follow the song exactly. Maybe he records the rythm tracks and plays over it. It is pretty impressive however he does it.

From all outward appearances, he was playing over a SMF or audio file. If anyone wants a great Yamaha style file for In The Mood I'll be more than happy to send it to them.

I have yet to hear a better version of "In The Mood" then the one posted on the Audya above...if anyone finds another version of that caliber please post it here.

To reassure you that Big Band music lives on. Here's a recent performance of "In The Mood" by a jazz band that my arranger keyboard friend Antonio Chaves (who lives in Germany) performed with last week at a festival held in Argentina. 16 yo Antonio is playing the piano. Great to see these kids keeping Big Band music alive, hopefully for many generations to come:
